Bureau Valley Elementary in Wyanet, Illinois houses students in grades preschool through 2nd for a total of 153 students with 14 highly qualified certified teachers and 12 staff members. Students who live in or around Wyanet, Buda and Sheffield attend Bureau Valley Elementary.
The preschool is a State funded program with two sections (AM and PM) that meet five days a week for two hours and 40 minutes each day. Each grade level (K through 2nd) has two sections. Students in grades kindergarten through 2nd participate in music (3 times each week), art class (2 times each week), library class (1 time a week), computer class (2 times each week), and physical education (5 times each week). In additional to the traditional physical education exercises and State directed curriculum, the physical education teacher introduces basketball and volleyball fundamentals, indoor roller skating, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Core classes include the State curriculums in reading, language arts, spelling, mathematics, science, and social studies aligned to the New Illinois Learning Standards. Kindergarten students participate in KIDS Assessment each year. Kindergarten through 2nd grade students participate in AIMSweb benchmarking three times a year. Beginning March of 2015, students will take District Type II and Type III tests.
