Good luck to our 6th grade volleyball team as they travel to JFK to open up the JFK Tournament with Ottawa Intermediate at 5:30. The tournament will continue tomorrow with them playing at 9:00AM. Good luck ladies!

7th grade students in Mrs. Hoyt’s Life Science classes are comparing businesses with either the parts of a plant or animal cell. Such businesses include a pizza parlor, donut shop, factory, hospital, town, and school.
Sixth grade artist's in Mrs. Knapp's class created line drawings based on Neurographic Art. They chose a color family and are adding watercolor to complete their "tiles."
3-5 PE in Manlius celebrated the 100th day of school with some exercises. The students had to complete 10 exercises, 10 times each. 10x10=100!
We hit on all of the health related components of fitness.
Heart Awareness Night Update (February 2nd):
The Parlor will be selling red and pink drinks for $5 at our Heart Awareness Night and they will be donating half of their proceeds to the American Heart Association.

6th grade Earth Science identified sedimentary rocks today! This concludes their rock unit! They have identified metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary rocks!

Mr. DeVenney’s class took ownership of their own learning during Social Studies. They learned how to find critical details, summarize, and take their own notes for a nonfiction text. They will be applying those skills when they start researching the origins of Illinois town names.

These students are the winners of the classroom Geography bee. They are now finalist for the Bureau Valley Junior High Geography Bee. It will be held on Friday, January 27, at 11:00 in the Bureau Valley Auditorium in Manlius.

Students in Mrs. Kuelper’s fifth grade science class are learning about ecosystems and food webs. Students had to match the animal to their ecosystem. They also had to complete a food chain for a forest, ocean, and rainforest.
Thank you to Central Bank Illinois, Bureau Valley Boosters, Justin York, and Bureau Valley 340 for helping getting the Robotics team to State comfortably in a charter bus. Both Storm Bot teams are so grateful! (Along with the coaches and families.) Go STORM!

A few important announcements regarding our junior high sports teams.
1) The 6th grade game scheduled for February 2nd at LaSalle has moved to Bureau Valley due to our Heart Awareness Night. We want all teams to be involved on our special night. The 6th grade game will begin at 4:00 with the 7th and 8th grade games to follow. That will also be 8th grade recognition night as well.
2) Our 8th grade boys basketball team has been seeded 5th in their regional and will travel to Rockridge High School on January 28th to play Aledo Mercer County at 10:30AM!

Bureau Valley Elementary Schools are excited for the second year of our district-wide book club called One School, One Book. Today all elementary students were fortunate enough to magically find out their book would be Kenny & the Dragon by Tony DiTerlizzi. Thank you to our guest magician who revealed our book for this year.
Each family will once again be receiving their own copy of the book and will be asked to read the story together at home over the next six weeks. Let's enjoy the book for the next six weeks together!
