Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s), The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority at Bureau Valley. Tomorrow, Friday, September 20 we will conduct a school-wide lockdown drill at Walnut. We practice safety drills throughout the year to help our staff and students know what to do in an emergency. Please know that if there is ever a real emergency situation you will be notified through our automatic systems, i.e. phone, email, etc. I am encouraging you to talk with your child, if you deem it appropriate, about the drill. Our goal, while practicing important safety procedures, is to be sure all students feel safe. Should a lock down be called, the school's plan is to inform parents as soon as possible. There will be lock down signs on the doors to inform those coming up to the school that a lock down has been called, if a lock down happens before or when school is letting out for the day. If you are a driver and see this sign, please load the children back into the vehicle and drive away. Students will be told if they are walking up to the school and see the sign they are to go to one of the designated safe locations. You will get another message when the lock down has ended. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call us. Respectfully, Mrs.Kristie Cady, Principal

This morning, August 27, 2019, the school district was made aware of an alleged threat to the school from a student who was not on school grounds. The Bureau County Sheriff's Department was notified immediately. The administration and staff then performed safety protocol steps to ensure the safety of all students and staff in the building. The Sheriff’s department swiftly contained the situation by placing the student into custody. The situation will continue to be monitored by the Sheriff’s department and school administration. The District takes all threats seriously and will continue to investigate any and all allegations to ensure that we provide the safest environment possible for everyone in our district.
