Reading to Victory!
We have had fun reading for Victory this week. The Chiefs were leading in the first quarter but the Eagles came back and tied up the game in the second. The third quarter also ended in a tie and we are waiting for the special teams (afternoon preschool) to see if they can get in the end zone one more time before the final buzzer. Students have read 10475 minutes this week while cheering on their teams.
For the past few weeks, our 4th graders have been researching and writing letters to national parks across the country. This morning, our 4th graders got the change to have a Q&A with National Park Service GIS Specialist (and Bureau Valley class of 2012 graduate) Hannah Wirth. Thank you, Hannah, for sharing your experience with us! We loved learning about all of the exciting things you do!

Mrs. Henegar's student of the Month for January was Millie! Millie has such a kind spirit and is always welcoming towards her classmates. Way to go, Millie! Keep watching for our February student of the month!

Kindergarten: Building a snowman. The students worked in pairs and trios to build a snowman from various pieces of physical education equipment . The object was to work on team building, cooperation and communication while working on reading and math skills. The students did an outstanding job.
For Friday's 12 Days of Kindness activity, Walnut's 4th grade students teamed up with 1st grade students to decorate and enioy their gingerbread men pancakes!
Gingerbread day was a huge success in Ms. Davis's and Mrs. Warner's 1st grade classes!! We enjoyed pancakes with our 4th grade friends, coloring, playing with gingerbread playdoh and creating! Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄
3rd, 4th, and 5th graders enjoyed some Christmas-themed Minute to Win It Games like a "snowball fight" and "snowman stack" during our fun last day before break!
Mrs. Henegar's December student of the month was Maya! Maya works so hard in class and can always see the positive in any situation. She is kind, thoughtful, and a friend to all. Way to go, Maya!
